Site

The picturesque "Batakovo" tract is situated on the left bank of the great Siberian Irtysh river, 150 km to the North from Omsk. Primordial quiet, the beauty and the wealth of nature seem to turn the man to the very first days of his existence, to the far-off past times. Numerous well-observed archaeological objects vividly illustrate the scenes of ancient human history.
More than 150 archaeological relicts and monuments of all epochs from the Stone ages till the ages of Modern history are exposed there. Thanks to the density of archaeological antiquities in the tract of "Batakovo" one can observe there the ancient sites, the settlements, the citadels, the tumulus and burial mounds in bright ensembles. Only on the territory of this tract there still exist the remains of the largest cities and necropolis left by the aborigines more than 2000 years ago. The preservation of the antiquities is unique as for many centuries, day by day, they have been being destroyed only by wear and tear of time. Even now one can clearly see the lay-out of ancient city streets and fortification particulars.

About 200 dwelling-base signs, complex fortification system with the watch-towers remains, the earth-bank and the wall are fixed. The first excavations took place in 1997. This summer the works will be concentrated upon some neighbour dwelling-houses, one of which is supposed to be an ironmaking work-shop.
